Troutdale Elementary School
The replacement school project included the demolition of an 88-year-old school and construction of a new 72,000 sf, two-story building with the capacity for more than 500 students. The new facility contains six commons areas connected to four classrooms dedicated to each grade, a media center, cafeteria, gymnasium, and hardscaping for parking. Outdoor improvements included a 2,900 sf metal covered outdoor hard surface play area and a 7,500 sf soft surface playground structure. Troutdale Elementary School was the first of three schools in the district to enroll in the Oregon Energy Trust’s Path to Net Zero initiative.
The new school was constructed a mere 20 feet away from the occupied school, so safety and logistics were key for this tight site. As part of the pre-planning efforts within the Reynolds School District bond program, we explored many options to make the construction safety perimeter an interactive learning experience.
