Lewis & Clark College, Fowler Student Center

Modernizing the Fowler Student Center at Lewis & Clark College required the demolition of 5,000 sf, an addition of an 8,000 sf third level that featured cross-laminated timber (CLT), and a  renovation of 22,000 sf of common and office spaces. One design challenge was adding an ADA compliant elevator to the existing structure. To minimize cost and increase efficiency, the elevator was added to the exterior of the facility, allowing the extra space to be committed to a 4,000 sf dining hall and 1,300 sf of offices, reception, and meeting rooms. The rooftop was developed as an outdoor patio, accessible from Fields Dining Hall. The project remained under construction on an occupied campus with careful safety and logistics plans.
