Every job site comes with risks. That’s why this year’s Construction Safety Week theme – Plan, Own, Commit – All in Together! – is a powerful reminder that safety isn’t just a checklist, it’s a collective mindset. When we plan ahead, take ownership of our actions, and look out for one another, we create a safer, healthier workplace for everyone.
At Bremik Construction, safety is not just a responsibility — it’s a shared value. We kicked off Safety Week with a company-wide Stand-Down event focused on fall prevention, the leading cause of jobsite fatalities. Falls account for one-third of all construction-related deaths, making this conversation not just important — but essential. The stand-down gave our teams time to pause, reflect, and recommit to a safety-first approach, together. “Safety is a hands-on activity — it’s something we all own, from the field to the office,” said Kaitlin Schauer, Bremik’s Construction Safety Manager. “One person’s actions impact everyone on site. That’s why we lead with a culture of awareness, accountability, and care. Our goal is simple: everyone goes home safe, every day.”
Empowering Every Voice on Site
Throughout the week, each jobsite hosted a Safety Lunch and Presentation, featuring real stories and insights from our safety committee, which ranges from carpenters, all the way to directors. Safety week is about everyone going in all together, no matter the role you play. “When the message comes from the people you work with daily, it resonates more deeply,” added Schauer. “It reinforces that safety is everyone’s job — not just during Safety Week, but every single day.”
A Week of Action: Daily Safety Themes
Each day of the week highlighted a core theme aligned with the national initiative and Bremik’s internal commitment to proactive safety:
Monday, May 5 – Plan with Precision
We launched the week focusing on pre-task planning. Our teams took time to map out every step of the work ahead — reducing risk through preparation and intentional decision-making.
Tuesday, May 6 – Identify High-Energy Hazards
From electrical exposure to heavy equipment, our crews zeroed in on recognizing and mitigating hazards that can cause the most harm. Awareness is the first step to prevention.
Wednesday, May 7 – Own Your Part
Personal accountability was the focus. Everyone on site was encouraged to speak up, take initiative, and stay vigilant. Because safety starts with you.
Thursday, May 8 – Engage and Empower
We fostered conversations around psychological safety and peer empowerment. Team members were reminded that their voice matters — and that safety grows when people feel heard.
Friday, May 9 – Commit to Excellence
We closed the week with a celebration of our shared commitment. Bremik’s standard for safety doesn’t end when Safety Week does — it’s a daily promise we renew on every job.
Looking Ahead: Safety as a Culture
Safety Week is a powerful reminder, but it’s not a once-a-year initiative. At Bremik, safety is woven into the fabric of every project. It’s in how we plan, how we build, and how we support each other.
As we wrap up another impactful Safety Week, we want to thank our Safety Leadership Team and every Bremik team member for their daily commitment to doing the right thing — even when no one is watching.
Let’s continue to carry these lessons forward — together.
