The Susan Emmons adds 70,000 sf of affordable senior housing to Portland’s historic Alphabet District. The project consists of an adaptive reuse renovation of a historic three-story structure, with new construction of two buildings with wood framing over post-tensioned concrete slabs. The six- and five-story buildings flank the existing building. After supporting the existing structure, micro piles were installed to tie the building to a reinforced and seismically sound foundation. The project has 148 units with resident services and is aiming to achieve Earth Advantage certification. The client’s 30% DMWESB utilization goal is currently being surpassed at 32% total participation.
