Students attended classes in the existing 57-year-old elementary school as we built them a new 72,000 sf, two-story facility. We overcame the challenges from working around the operational campus with detailed safety and logistics plans. The tilt-up, concrete, and steel structure includes 24 classrooms with common and collaboration spaces, a media center, cafeteria, covered outdoor play area, gymnasium, and parking. Working with the district and design team, Trevor discovered cost savings options totaling $1,337,000 at Design Development and an additional $1,091,000 at 50% Construction Documents. Suggested savings included modifying a tilt panel attachment method ($52,500), changing the equipment for back-up electrical ($65,000), switching the brand of air handler units ($202,000), and changing mechanical screening material ($18,000). The district selected cost reduction options and the savings was differed to voluntary upgrades.
