Bremik Selected as Builder for Portland's Most Mobile MansionPORTLAND, Ore. – Oct. 27th, 2008 - Bremik Construction, in partnership with Venerable Group, Opus NW and First Christian Church, will renovate the historic Ladd Carriage House now that the 534,000-pound building is situated at its original site again. After safely and securely moving the 125-year-old Ladd Carriage House back to its address of 1331 SW Broadway from its temporary storage at a site at SW 10th, renovations will now begin in full force. "We are honored to be apart of this historic moment, said Brent Parry, president, Bremik Construction. "As a part of the preservation team we look forward to making this building a prominent mixed-use building that will house Portland businesses for another 100-plus years." Bremik's Role in Ladd PreservationIn preparation for moving the house back to its original location, Bremik made a number of repairs, including: a full roof tear-off and re-roof; complete removal of the old but non-historic foundation elements; removal of paint on siding in preparation for rot repair, new siding as required and full repaint; hazardous material abatement; removal of existing widows which were sent to the shop for complete rehab; major rot repair in preparation for setting house on new foundation. Once moved, Bremik will: completely remove the non-historic interior elements; provide major structural improvements including complete rebuild of failed west wall, recreation of previously removed columns and beams; restore and repaint of all facades to bring back original design; install a new elevator, two stairwells, complete ADA upgrades; recreate the historic carriage doors and hayloft doors; install new electrical, HVAC and sprinkler systems; restore all existing windows and new historically accurate windows where necessary.
